How to Apply to the 2002 New York City Marathon

to be held on Sunday, November 3, 2002
Instructions for those who live in the US and Puerto Rico


The majority of entrants will be selected in a random lottery drawing to be
held in mid-June 2002.

To be eligible for the lottery you must:

· be at least 18 years old on November 3, 2002.

· complete all information on the on-line form or the printed application
by June 1, 2002, with a credit card number for payment.

Exceptions: Guaranteed Entries:

The following groups will be guaranteed entry to the 2002 NYC Marathon:

· Members of the NYRRC since at least 1/31/2001 who completed at least nine
(9)
NYRRC scored races during the year 2001.

· Entrants in the 2001 NYC Marathon who canceled prior to the race.

Special instructions will be sent to those who meet these requirements in
January 2002. Applications must be submitted according to those instructions
by May 1st for guaranteed entry.

· Also, those who meet the following qualifying time standards will be
guaranteed entry:

Open (Age 18-39 on race day)    Masters (Age 40+ on race day)

              Marathon ½ Marathon    Marathon ½ Marathon

Men      2:45:00     1:16:00          3:00:00    1:24:00

If you completed the NYC Marathon in 2001 and qualified with a time listed
above, the NYRRC will automatically mail you special instructions in late
January 2002. Otherwise, you must have completed a full marathon faster
than the appropriate qualifying time since 9/1/00 or you must have completed
a half-marathon faster than your qualifying time since 7/1/01. To be
accepted based on qualifying time, your entry must be submitted, along
with proof, by May 1st.

· Those who have completed 15 or more past NYC Marathons.

· Those who have applied and been rejected for the past three NYC Marathons
(1999, 2000, 2001).

· Athletes with disabilities, including wheelchair participants, will be
guaranteed entry if their applications are submitted by August 1st 2002.

How to Apply to the 2001 New York City Marathon

To be held on November 4, 2001

U.S. Resident Guidelines (International coming soon)

The starting field will consist of 30,000 runners (20,000 US and 10,000 International). Additional entrants will be accepted in each group to make up for the expected numbers of withdrawals.
All entrants will be selected in a lottery drawing to be held in mid-June, except wheelchair athletes and those with special guaranteed entries (see below). There will no longer be a NYC Marathon Line-Up in Central Park.

To apply for the lottery:

· Apply at the NYRRC web site ( Complete the entry form (available late January 2001) and submit it along with your credit card information, or

· Submit an application form by mail. Entry forms will be available late January 2001. To receive one, send a #10 self-addressed stamped envelope after January 1st to:

or pick one up at the New York Road Runners Club on 9 East 89th Street, New York City.

A non-refundable processing fee of $7.00 will be charged for all applications to the lottery. Check the printed entry form or the NYRRC web site for further information about entry fees.

All applications must be postmarked or submitted on-line by June 1st to be eligible for the lottery which will be held on or around June 13th. Following the lottery, entrants will be notified of their entry status by mail and on the NYRRC web site.

Special Guaranteed Entries:

The following groups will be guaranteed entry to the 2001 NYC Marathon:

· Members of the NYRRC since at least 1/1/2000 who completed at least nine (9) NYRRC scored races during the year 2000.

· Entrants in the 2000 NYC Marathon who canceled prior to the race.

Special instructions will be sent to those who meet these requirements in January 2001. Applications must be submitted according to those instructions by May 1st for guaranteed entry.

Also, those who meet the following qualifying time standards will be guaranteed entry:
