3 Mile April 18, 2009 By Dave Panza
Mark Vogt and Ellen Brennan
Hearn won the weekly SIAC
Run for Fun at Clove Lakes
Park. Vogt covered the
three mile course in 20:48,
narrowly defeating Bobby
Guidera (20:50) and Peter
Ballentine (20:55).
Hearn won the women's race
in 25:04, with Mary Orazem
(26:22) and Catherine
Morrison-Buck (26:40)
placing second and third.
Guidera was bidding for
perhaps the oldest victor of
the Fun Run award in his
battle with Vogt and
Ballentine. After a
tight first loop, Guidera
broke away when Fiona Rose
Morrison-Buck, whose
carriage Mark was pushing,
inadvertently dropped her
bottle. Not only did
Mark stop to retrieve the
precious bottle, but
gentleman Ballentine did the
same, clearly recognizing
the importance of the bottle
relative to Fun Run
championship glory.
But alas, Guidera was unable
to hold his widening lead,
and the three engaged in a
mad dash to the finish.
The only participant not
completely out of breath was
Fiona Rose, who cooperated
by holding on to her bottle
during these crucial final
moments. I tip my hat
to every one of these
gladiators, as the fans were
greatly entertained.
No Fun Run next week due to
to the Greenbelt Adventure
Race.
