3 Mile Fun Run

Luis Oyola and Alma Ramos posted victories in the weekly SIAC sponsored Fun Run on a chilly but beautiful St. Valentines day in Clove Lakes Park. The race was once again used as a testing ground for the SIAC scoring equipment. Scoring masters Rich Re, Lisa Rigolini and Mark Vogt reported no glitches in the scoring with a respectable 47 runners crossing the finish line.
The 44 year old Oyola easily won the mens race by crossing the finish line in 18:15 to hold off Pete Williams (18:51) and Neil Dremachandran (19:16), both from the St. Peters High School track team. Jason Hart (19:49) was fourth holding off fifth place Joe McKeever (19:57) also from St. Peters.
Alma Ramos won the womens race in 23:01, with Catherine Morrison-Buck (24:46) finishing in second place. Eight year old Meredith Hailsalik (26:03) finished in third, just ahead of fourth place Ellen Brennan-Hearn (26:07). Ruth Fairbrother, running with canine Alta finished fifth in 28:36.
The nice weather in Clove Lakes Park also served as a small Greenery Club reunion with Charlie Marchese, Steve Maluk and Bob Guidera showing up for the race. Guidera's result is not in the posting since he refused to pay the $0.00 entry fee as well as declining to wear a shirt while crossing the finish line. Let's see if he can hold up the rest of the weekend with temperatures expected to drop to the low 20's.
Special thanks to Tom Hogan and his brother who helped at the finish line as well as everyone else who helped with lugging the equipment and table back to the cars. Although some of us did get a little nervous when firefighter Tim McCauley carryed one of the chairs.
