3 Mile Fun Run

January 11, 2003

Stephen Hook and Mary Tursi were the winners at the weekly SIAC Run for Fun at cold, blustery Clove Lakes Park. Hook covered the three mile course in 18:31, outlasting second place Scott LaMorte (18:37). Sean McCauley (18:57), Gene Galasso (19:11) and David Panza (19:40) rounded out the top five overall finishers.

Tursi was the women's winner in 20:38, defeating St. John Villa teammate Meghan McCarrick (21:45). Jacqui Mahoney (22:00), Christine Connelly (23:02) and Joann Rosiello (25:27) were third through fifth among the women.

Today's weather was cold and blustery, and the runners were conservative as a result. Steve Hook and Scott LaMorte took turns with the lead, but Steve pulled away in the second loop. Mary Tursi took command early in crusing to her victory over her track teammate Meghan McCarrick.

We engaged in a lighthearted toss of a green Jets football afterwards, and were hopeful Scott LaMorte might see the light upon handling the magic ball. But alas, his heart and soul remains with the black-and-gold clad Pittsburgh Steelers. As of this writing, the Steelers game is 3 1/2 hours away, and we were constantly reminded by Scott after the race exactly how many minutes remained till kickoff. Yes, there are fans, AND THERE ARE FANS! I leave you with this thought - J E T S, Jets, Jets, Jets!!
